Am I Pansexual?

In short, pansexuality is the fact of feeling an attraction that will be linked to the individual, their personality, charisma, our own feelings towards this person, or any other trait that is not associated with gender identity…

The definition of pansexuality remains a source of debate among pansexual people. Some may find points that do not correspond to their actual feelings. However, pansexuality is currently the most generic and inclusive term possible when talking about attractions (in all forms).

The problem with etymology is that it gives some people the impression that pansexuals want to sleep with everyone. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Differences between pansexuality and bisexuality:

The differences between the two are relatively simple to understand: bisexuality is the fact of feeling an attraction (sexual, physical, romantic, spiritual) towards two genders. Hence the prefix bi-, which often includes two elements.

On the other hand, pansexuality has the prefix pan-, which means “All – All”. Which means that attraction are therefore turned towards all individuals.

However, many people do not agree with these definitions. After all, everyone has their own feelings about their identity.

It is therefore difficult to define precisely the limits and differences between two terms.

Differences between pansexuality and polysexuality:

Poly- being the prefix for “several”, the word is often used to talk about people who have several sexual attractions (three or more gender identities). It is also referred to as a polyromantic person when the focus is on the romantic aspect.

The two terms are therefore very close in their definitions, and are often used interchangeably. But there is however well an important point on which the polysexuality is not equivalent to the pansexuality.

In particular, polysexuality means that a person experiences sexual attraction to people of many genders, but not necessarily all. Thus, there is an emphasis on the gender identity of partners, which is not the case with pansexual people.

Conclusion

Sexuality is more a matter of how you experience your own attraction, rather than who you experience it with.

We need to remember that it’s not just a biological thing like genes, it also has psychological and social aspects.

Unlike your genes, which are immutable, your sexuality is dynamic and it is normal that it changes over time. Whether you are bisexual or pansexual, your sexual identity is valid.

You have the right to identify yourself as you wish, regardless of the letter of the acronym you choose.

Just because they have an openness and potential attraction to people of all genders, it doesn’t mean that they are interested in everyone.
